Hey, everyone! I’m Jessica, the founder behind The Hook Nook, and I REALLY like to make pretty things. For the last several years I’ve gone from teaching myself to crochet, to selling my makes to friends and family, to opening an Etsy shop, to pattern designing and now I am so fortunate to have worked with some of the biggest brands and companies in the fiber industry from all around the world. You can now find my own The Hook Nook brand designer crochet hooks, yarn and craft accessories at in my online shop and at various retailers!

Penny Scarf Crochet Pattern

Patterns/DIY
4/25/2018

Hi, friends!

It's been a good minute since I've released a new pattern, but goodness gracious, you're in for a wild ride over the next few months - I hope you're ready! Today I am EXTREMELY excited to get my new Penny Scarf crochet pattern out into the world and onto your hooks. There's just something so meditative about repetition and slight focus, and these things ring true for this project.

Want to snag a printer-friendly and beautifully templated version of this pattern?! Head over to EtsyRavelry, and Love Crochet to snag your copy! Thank you for supporting me!!

With each new design, I always strive to give it a bit of character, something that might encourage it to stand tall above the average project. For Penny, I knew I wanted a scarf with bobbles (because, duh) but I wasn't sure how to make bobbles a little more special. As I was working up swatches, trying different things, it instantly clicked. I imagined it with a whole line of diagonal bobbles - a design feature that was not intimidating, yet added more interest and originality.

As for the yarn choice, I scoured my shelves to find the *perfect* Penny yarn and after touching and squishing them all, I knew that the We Are Knitters Meripaca was just the right choice. Enough squish from the alpaca fibers, but enough structure from the merino wool. Boom. Done. Let's do this.

If you would like a printer-friendly, beautifully templated version of this pattern, you can find them available for purchase on Etsy, Ravelry and, Love Crochet. The BRAND NEW pattern template was gorgeously and custom designed by Teresa Carter from DeBrosse NYC - check out her other pattern templates and products in her Etsy shop!

Bobbles, beautiful yarn and a fun, relaxing pattern? Sign me up! This easy and fun scarf pattern is a perfect on-the-go project that works up really quick! Add texture and style to any outfit with your own Penny Scarf! I’ve been so inspired by bobbles for the spring season because of how playful they can be, and working them up in a diagonal design really adds some great character!

MATERIALS:

-3 balls / 459 yds We Are Knitters Meripaca yarn (153 yds/ball, 80% superwash merino wool / 20% baby alpaca)

-K/6.5mm crochet hook

-Tapestry needle

-Scissors

KEY:

CH: Chain

HDC: Half Double Crochet

BO: Bobble Stitch

st: Stitch

sts: Stitches

MC: Main Color

CC: Contrast Color

GAUGE:

12 sts x 9 rows = 4”x4” in HDC

**If your swatch does not match this, you will want to use a different size hook. Use a smaller size hook if your swatch is bigger than mine or a larger hook if your swatch is smaller than mine.

MEASUREMENTS:

Final dimensions: 8.25” x 52”

BOBBLE STITCH:

YO, insert into st. (YO, pull back out of st. YO, pull through first two loops on hook (2 loops on hook. YO, insert into same st). Repeat ( ) until you have a total of six loops on your hook. YO, pull through all six loops. Note: It helps if you gently tug on your working strand to tighten the stitch a bit more. I’ve noticed that this helps keep the bobble shape instead of potentially allowing the stitches within the bobble to loosen and become more flat.
