Hey, everyone! I’m Jessica, the founder behind The Hook Nook, and I REALLY like to make pretty things. For the last several years I’ve gone from teaching myself to crochet, to selling my makes to friends and family, to opening an Etsy shop, to pattern designing and now I am so fortunate to have worked with some of the biggest brands and companies in the fiber industry from all around the world. November 2020 Office Update + $1000 OFF!!

The Hook Nook
11/22/2020

Ok, I'll be honest.. I've been dragging my feet getting this post put together while also working on some other things. BUT! When I learned about the current offers Create Room is offering for their DreamBox (my big white desk) for Black Friday, I knew I had to tell you before it was too late! I spent today tidying up my office and making it all pretty for photos. However, we all know that creative spaces rarely look like this so I doubt it will even last the night. If you know, you know.

Ever since we moved into this house April of 2019, I have been more than grateful to call this space my home office. If you've been around awhile, you know that this space has changed countless times since then. I've found it both frustrating and exciting that the longer I work in here, the more I realize how I can make small adjustments that can allow me to be more productive and efficient, hence all of the changes.

As you may know, I've recently reconnected with a friend I've known since 7th grade and she has been the best thing since sliced bread. With her help, my office has turned into my dream getaway and creative space. I am so excited to finally get this post put together for you so I can finally share this huge project I've been working on behind the scenes with Brittany. A lot has changed since my last update!

The first thing I wanted to do to customize this space was to paint the walls. I wanted to incorporate the pink used in my branding and knew I wanted to have multiple colors. For those that remember, the wall behind my DreamBox had a green/white plant leaf wallpaper design in my last update. I looooooved that aesthetic but something felt "off" for this space. I have seen several DIYers use dark paint in various ways and I've always wanted to try it, but we all know how scary it is to put BLACK on a wall... I figured since the DreamBox covered most of the wall anyway, the dark color would allow a gorgeous contrast against the white desk and really allow it the attention it deserves.

These are the paint colors I used:

-SW 6024 / Dressy Rose

-SW 7076 / Cyperspace

I'm sooooo happy with how the colors turned out! Once the walls were complete, I knew I wanted to do something with the ceiling because it was a yellow-ish tan and just wasn't what I wanted. I wanted to do something unique and different and more of a "statement" since it would kind of be a detail in images and line-of-sight. I'm sure some people may think my decor taste might be too "busy", but it makes me happy to have different textures and shapes and such which all curate a more specific personality.

Brittany has been essential in the day-to-day duties of the shop aspect of The Hook Nook and helps me package your orders and take them to the post office. She is helping me with some other exciting things as well as keeping up on priority projects and helping me make sure I get allllllllll of the little details finished up to offer my best work. I am so grateful for her! Her and I created this corner area for her to stay organized and be efficient as well. It's worked soooo well being able to leave little notes for her (she visits 2-3 times a week) and just be further organized as I manage a growing business. It is my main priority to do all of this as well as I can and the team I have next to me is the only reason that any of this is working. Well, at least with allowing me to keep my sanity and set aside designated time away from work to be solely with my family..

We created this large at-a-glance year calendar using white/gray marble adhesive paper as the background, black manila folders with rose gold letters cut out from Brittany's Cricut machine, and framed using wood pieces from the local hardware store and stained. We put velcro pieces on the folders so they can stay closed and keep allllllll of our secrets hidden when I randomly share about my office.

We built Brittany's desk by using two rolling storage carts and a large piece of wood from the local hardware store, and topped it with the cutting mat from Create Room. In this space, she hand paints little kit pieces, cuts ribbon, laminates patterns from our featured designers and just basically does alllll the things to help me free up time in my schedule. We used an extra board I had lying around and some "L" shaped pieces to create a DIY shelf for the laminating machine and storage beneath. The cutting mat is super convenient for her because it is easy to clean and creates a smooth space for the laminated sheets to lay easily while she multitasks on other projects. I truly wish you all knew how much we all worked each day to put all of this together! It DEFINITELY takes a village over here and I'm beyond appreciative of mine.
